How does it work?

The operating principle of electro stimulation is very simple. It faithfully reproduces the processes involved in muscle contraction under the control of our brain. When we decide to contract a muscle, the brain sends the order, in the form of electrical currents, that travel at high speed along the nerve fibers. At the end of the run, these electrical currents excite the motor nerve which then passes the information to the immediate surroundings of the muscle and triggers a muscle contraction.

With electro stimulation, the excitation is directly produced at the motor nerve by means of 'optimal' electrical impulses that guarantee efficacy, safety and comfort in use. Thanks to this process, the muscle cannot distinguish between a voluntary contraction (caused by the brain) and an electrically induced contraction: the work that it produces is the same irrespective of the nature of the order!

Beginnings: The idea for a small, portable electro stimulation device for the medical market originated at BBC Secheron which founded Compex SA in 1986. In 1988, its first medical device, the Compex Medical, was launched in the Swiss market.
 
Evolution: In 1996, Compex introduced electro stimulation products for the general public, targeting amateur athletes in Switzerland, France and Italy. In 1999, distribution began in Germany and Spain with subsequent expansions into the UK, Benelux and Austrian markets. And for 2004, the USA.
