986 Frameset ~

In 2008, Look redefined cross country mountain biking with its 986 full carbon frameset. The zip, zing, and smoothness are unrivaled. Carefully controlled use of High Modulus carbon fiber allows Look to make an ultralight frame while maintaining optimal lateral stiffness. The front triangle is 1-piece "monobloc" construction for greatest strength and lightness. A reinforcing gusset is integrated into the downtube for durability as well as compatibility with new suspension fork designs. The rear triangle is connected to the front triangle using T2T (tube-to-tube) technology for strength and perfect alignment. The upper and lower sections of the stays are flattened for greater comfort in the vertical plane and increased stiffness in the lateral plane. Three elastomer blocks in the integrated seatpost absorb small impacts and vibrations. Soft (gray), medium (red), and firm (black) blocks are included with each frame so you can fully customize your ride. Frame weight with included seatpost is a mere 4.7 pounds! 996 Frameset ~

New for 2009, the 996 frameset combines the smooth ride of the 986 with Look's race proven virtual pivot linkage  suspension system. Using even stronger VHM (Very High Modulus) carbon than the 986, this new frame maintains the proven stiffness of the 986 even as the extra linkage is added. The main triangle is 1-piece "monobloc" construction joined to 4 carbon stays and forged aluminum linkages. The steering geometry is perfectly optimized for both 80 and 100mm forks. Look's attention to detail in the high quality sealed ENDURO cartridge bearings and heat treated linkages ensures that the suspension system functions flawlessly with minimum maintenance and maximum durability. 5.5 pounds with shock in size small. Look's 996 rear suspension system uses a virtual pivot system to mechanically counter the compression of the shock induced by pedaling and chain tension. The result is an extremely efficient "anti-bob" effect in a system that remains sensitive and continuously active regardless of terrain. Though a rear lockout is included, it is practically unnecessary in this design. Accelerations are always prompt and efficient even with the suspension 100% active over its full range of travel. The rear shock is a Rock Shox Monarch 4.2 with 16.5cm of travel.

Monarch 4.2 rear shock: 205g Hydraulic with IFP Damping, externally adjustable rebound, Floodgate with On/Off lockout, Solo Air Spring with adjustable air pressure via a single Schrader valve.
