For more than three years, Pinarello's engineers worked in collaboration with Team Sky to design a successor to the already outstanding Pinarello Graal, the time trial frame that swept the 2012 Tour de France. The result is the 2017 Pinarello Bolide, a frame that reduces total aerodynamic impact by a whopping 15% over the Graal.

Major advances in stiffness and efficiency:
Superior frame stiffness in the correct places is a trademark of Pinarello. Improvements beyond previous designs have been obtained through advanced structural optimization of the tubes. This allows the rider to transfer all the power he generates into forward motion. Unlike traditional aerodynamic airfoils, Bolide sections optimize aerodynamics while maintaining almost constant stiffness compared to the Graal. A tapered headset with 1 1/8" upper and 1 1/4" lower bearings provides a perfect compromise between handling and aerodynamic performance. Pinarello's patented asymmetric chainstays oppose the unequal forces created by the power applied to the drivechain. The individual lay-up of carbon layers specially reinforces the most stressed areas of the frame. New and unique Torayca 65HM1K carbon allows an overall weight reduction of the frame with unequalled structural characteristics compared to conventional fibers. A massively oversized BB86 bottom bracket further increases stiffness in this crucial point of the frame. And, a new removable front derailleur hanger allows the rider to completely remove this area of turbulence in flat races that require only one chainring up front.

 

 

Think2 universal cable routing: Pioneered by Pinarello in their Dogma 65.1, the Bolide is fully compatible with both mechanical and electronic group sets. The position of the water bottle can be lowered towards the bottom bracket to increase aerodynamic performance. Down tube sections are further optimized to hide the bottle from airflow. Horizontal rear dropouts permit perfect adjustment of the wheel distance to downtube for maximum aerodynamic advantage. And, a special aero section has been added to the the bottom bracket to accommodate a power crank sensor.
