Industry Recalls ~

Periodically, review the following industry notices to see if you are using any of these recalled products:

____________________

Dimension, in 2005 discovered a manufacturing defect that affected some of their Dimension brand threadless stems in the 130 degree “high rise” models. They conducted a product recall in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission of all 130 degree stems sold from 2003 to 2005. Despite the recall, many of the recalled stems may still be in use by consumers, and a small percentage may have the manufacturing defect that led to the recall. In order to protect the public from the possibility of injury, Dimension is continuing their  efforts to publicize this recall. For more information about the recall, and inspection and replacement procedures, visit www.dimensionbikeparts.com or contact QBP toll-free at (877) 725-7211 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. (05/08)

Torelli has recalled their 2005 Verona and Lugano clincher tires. Due to a problem in manufacture, the tire bead can expand or stretch when the tire is inflated and separate from the wheel resulting in an immediate flat. This could result in loss of bicycle control and a fall possibly causgin an injury. Stop riding these tires immediately! Contact Cycles BiKyle or www.torelli.com for free replacement tires. Cervelo Bicycles of Toronto, Canada has issued a voluntary recall of the early production of their "Wolf" carbon forks. Though Cervelo has not received any reports of injuries from these forks, some have developed cracks around the crown area. This could result in total failure of the fork and an injury. These forks were only sold as part of early 2003 Soloist Team and Super Prodigy bicycles (Soloist 105 bikes are not affected). They are easily identified by the following: Wolf carbon forks from Soloist Team and Super Prodigy bikes that have large "Cervelo" decals on the sides of the forks are all recalled. Newer Wolf forks not involved in the recall have a large "Wolf" decal on their side. To our knowledge, all customers that received recalled forks from Cycles BiKyle have been personally contacted by Cycles BiKyle. All other consumers involved in the recall should stop using the recalled forks immediately and contact Cervelo through their toll free number at 866-296-3137. Recalled forks are being promptly replaced free of charge through authorized Cervelo dealers. (07/03)

Look of France has recalled a batch of their Look Carbon Stems. Although they've received no reports of breakage in the U.S., Look is recalling a small batch as they have seen some cracks in some stems used in France. The recall affects only Look Carbon stems (all sizes) which were shipped between July and August of 2001. Stems are identified by a dimple in the front of the stem underneath the face plate near one of the two threaded screw holes. Recalled stems do NOT have this dimple. If you have the dimple then you are fine. For a free replacement or inspection, return your stem to the place of purchase or call Veltec-Look at 800-991-0070. (02/03)

Profile Design: Owners of Profile Design Carbon-X and Carbon Stryke add-on aero bars should be aware that Profile has instituted a voluntary recall of the some of the arm support brackets on these bars*. The bracket can loosen and come off during use causing a loss of control of the bicycle. All owners should stop using their aero bars and immediately contact an authorized Profile dealer, such as Cycles BiKyle. Profile will provide new brackets that are easily installed by the shop or customer in less than 5 minutes. Tools required are a 4mm and a 5mm allen wrench. Or, visit Profile's website at www.profile-design.com

Avid released a service bulletin, definitely NOT a recall, in regard to their mechanical disc brakes. Some riders or mechanics are trying to over-stretch the cables during setup thus causing undue stress to the entire brake system. "To properly setup the brake, it is not necessary or appropriate to attempt to stretch the inner wires." Bottom line - Make sure that you do not overly squeeze the brake levers after the pads have contacted the rotor. If, during brake setup or heavy-duty use, you hear or feel a pop while applying pressure to the brake levers, or notice a sudden increase in the slack or play of the brake cable then the brake may have been damaged. At that point, you should immediately contact your Avid dealer for inspection and possible repair or replacement.   11/00

Profile-Design of California has instituted a recall of approximately 8000 "Stiffy" threadless stems. The stems say "Profile" on them, not "Profile-Design". And, they say "Stiffy" on the rear portion of the steering tube clamp. The recalled stems have only 2 bolts on the bar clamp. There is a new version with 3 bolts on the bar clamp; these have not been recalled. If you have one of these stems stop using it immediately and return it to your dealer for free replacement or call 888-800-5999 ext 161 for a dealer locator.     11/00
